Most man wants to know how their penis measured up against the rest at some point in their lives. Everyone hopes their penis is not below averages and they have to lots of questions regarding if they are "adequate" or not. It is fair to see that most males perceive their penis size to be very important and a huge factor in their ability to perform sexually and in their masculinity.

It is also fair to note that if a man is not satisfy with his size and feels his penis size is not adequate, he will suffer from lack of confidence and depression which directly affects his intimate relationship and sexual performance in bed. So how does one know how their penis measured up?

Unfortunately, there is no definitive answer to this question. The only way to get some sort of idea of the average penis size is to take reasonable sample of males and measure their size independently. Various surveys have been conducted by magazine (for males only) and other organizations to find out the average penis size.

Many of them rely on the participants to measure their own penises and send in the results through the Internet. Unfortunately, the data collected might not be reliable because participants can exaggerate the size of their penises, or measure incorrectly. No one will be honest to admit they have a small penis and so they tend to give figures higher than average.

Many of these studies shown results of average size from 6 inches to 6.5 inches and it can be a headache as to which one to believe. One of the largest Internet survey was conducted by condom manufacturer, Durex where 2,936 men from 27 different countries participated.

All penis measurement were done by each individual and results send online on Durex website. The majority of participants were white and from the United States (39 percent). The study is not a good representation of different ethnic backgrounds and different races as most respondents are from the United States. The study revealed the average penis length is 6.4 inches and average erect girth is 5..2 inches.

Another survey that leverages the power of the Internet to find out the average penis size is known as the definitive penis size survey. A total of 2,545 participants took part. In this survey, the penis length is measured BP, which means the ruler is pressed into the public bone on the top of the penis.

By doing so removes the effect of fat pad over the public bone. Most participants push as hard as possible when using this method, which suggest they measure longer for the same physical length. The results revealed that the erect penis length is 6.4 inches and erect penis circumference is 5.0 inches.

Another manufacturer, Lifestyle Condoms conduct a survey in the spring of 2001. Lifestyles assembled a group of about 301 volunteers who were over 18 years old. Since there were mainly U.S. college students, it is not a great way to evaluate racial and ethnic variations.

The participants have to go into a private tent outside a nightclub, where they found magazines and other items to help them get in the mood and after that two nurses measured their penis. The results of the Lifestyles survey found that average erect penis length is 5.877 inches and erect girth is 4.97 inches.

The study that is considered as the most accurate by many is the studies done by The Alfred C. Kinsey Institute for sex Instead of each individual submitting their results online, they have to head down to Alfred C. Kinsey Institute and measured by staffs over there.

The Kinsey study was done in 1948 where sample of 10,000 men were measured and the results complied. Analysis of the Kinsey data shown that the average erect length was 6-6.5 inches in length and to measure the erect length, measure tape was taken from the tip of the penis to the public area. The average girth was 5-5.5 inches and the girth measurement was taken from the middle of the erect penis using a measuring tape. See graph below:

Take note that your penis size doesn't have a relationship with anything such as your feet. Even if you have a big feet does not represent that you will have a bigger penis.
