Understanding The Male Reproductive System

The male genitals are made up of several parts. Each of them work together to stimulate sexual activity and facilitate possible reproduction.

The male reproductive system is made up of several parts or organs that create and disperse sperm in order to facilitate pro creation. Unlike the female organs, the male genitals are located outside the body.

The male genitals include: the testicles, the duct system, the accessory glands, and the penis. The testicles are where the sperm is produced. They are small sacks located outside the body. The duct system is made up of the epididymis and the vas deferens, a tube from which the sperm are dispensed.

The accessory glands include the seminal vesicles and prostate gland. The penis is also located externally and is the central part of the reproductive system.

In addition to producing sperm, the testicles also produce male hormones, which include testosterone, which is a major part of puberty. Once a male is past puberty, the testicles continue producing this hormone, which is the reason for a man's masculine make-up. It also stimulates the production of sperm.

The epididymis and the vas deferens are located beside the testicles. They make up the ducts system of the male reproductive system. The vas deferens is a muscular tube that passes along side the testicles and transports the sperm-containing fluid that is called semen.

The epididymis is a set of coiled tubes that connects to the vas deferens. There is one tube per testicle.

The epididymis and the testicles hang in a pouch outside the body called the scrotum. This sack-like structure helps to regulate the temperature of the testicles, which must be kept cooler than normal body temperature in order to produce sperm. The scrotum changes sizes to maintain the temperature accordingly. When the body is cold, the scrotum shrinks and becomes tighter in order to hold in body heat. When the body is warmer or even hot, it becomes larger and loser to get rid of extra heat. These changes are regulated from within the brain and are involuntary.

The accessory glands, which include the seminal vesicles and prostrate gland, provide fluids that lubricate the duct system and nourish the sperm. The seminal vesicles are sack-like structures attached to the vas deferens beside the bladder. The prostrate gland, which helps produce semen, is located at the base of the urethra, another tubular structure that is not included in the male reproductive system.

All of these parts make up the entire system, which are also referred to as the male genitals. They work together to stimulate sexual activity and facilitate possible reproduction.
