The Purpose Of The Penis Foreskin

The foreskin is located at the tip of the penis and serves to protect it. It also serves to stimulate sexual activity.

The foreskin is a small piece of skin that covers the tip of the penis. It is often removed at a male child's birth through a process called a circumcision. It does, however, serve three main purposes.

The foreskin serves to protect the tip of the penis as well as the opening through which semen and urine are excreted. This also can help to keep bacteria from affecting this area, which can reduce the chances of infection or irritation.

The foreskin also helps to protect the glands from injury and keeps them moist and soft. Without it, the glands can become callused and dry and desensitized from exposure and chafing. This also helps to guard against further irritation to the penis and genital area.

The third purpose of the foreskin is the enhanced sexual pleasure caused by the special nerve endings it contains. This enhancement takes place during sexual intercourse. This combined with the nerve endings in the penis can affect the overall sexual experience.

Though the foreskin serves these three main purposes, many parents choose to have their maile children circumcised. This is done through a procedure called a circumcision, which is usually performed at or after the child's birth. Though some children are not circumcised, this is considered a standard procedure in some parts of the world. Some males choose to have this done when they reach adulthood for various personal reasons, but this is generally less typical.

It is important to note that even if a male is circumcised, it is not very likely that many difficulties will occur as a result. Though the purposes mentioned above are certainly important, the body gets used to not having the foreskin and adjusts accordingly. Adults who have not been circumcised but want to know more about it, i.e. its advantages and disadvantages, should consult a physician to learn more about the procedure and any possible effects that may occur after reaching adulthood. The Internet may also serve as a source of general information, and may provide various resources that can prove helpful. The benefits can then be weighted with any potential risks and a decision can then be made.
